Basketball is one of the most famous sports in history and the best league to watch if you’re a fan of this game is the NBA. Whether you’re from India or from anywhere else around the world, the NBA is the must-see league for Basketball. The league recently started the playoffs and teams have begun to battle it out for the most coveted championship.

Over the past weeks, here are some of the biggest news that occurred in the league:

Minnesota Timberwolves enter the playoffs

After three long years, the Minnesota Timberwolves have finally returned to the playoff picture after snagging the seventh seed from the Los Angeles Clippers during the play-in tournament on Wednesday, April 13th.

The game was filled with exciting moments which makes sense as it was the battle for the last slot in the playoffs. D’Angelo Russel and Timberwolves sophomore and guard, Anthony Edwards contributed the most points in the game recording 30 and 29 points respectively.

Drama also ensued during the game as one of the star players of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Karl Anthony Towns, was fouled out during the 4th quarter of the game with 8 minutes left. Despite this, the Timberwolves managed to scrap for the win against one of the toughest teams in the league. The game ended 109 – 104 in favour of the wolves.

One of the biggest highlights, however, was Patrick Beverly’s antics which was a hit with the hometown crowd of Minnesota. Additionally, the fact that the Clippers were Beverly’s previous team made the game more entertaining.

Their qualification for the playoffs led them to face the current number 2 seed in the league which is the Memphis Grizzlies. Since then, fans from all over the world have been at the edge of their seats as they can’t wait for the matchup between the two. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies have proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the league ending up with an impressive record of 56 wins and 26 losses during the regular season.

Jordan Poole erupts for 30 points

The playoffs began on April 17th Sunday and one of the first matchups in the western conference was the Golden State Warriors vs the Denver Nuggets. As expected the two teams put everything on the line and in the end, the former won 123 – 107.

The reigning MVP of the league, Nikola Jokic, led the Denver Nuggets in points, scoring 25 points. Aside from that, Jokic also recorded 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Running a close second in points, Will Barton also scored 24 during his 36 minutes in the game.

However, the biggest breakout of the game was Jordan Poole from the Golden State Warriors who was debuting his first playoffs appearance. Poole erupted for 30 points which was something the team needed as the other star players’ shots weren’t going in. This played a huge role in the Warriors’ win over the Nuggets and fans couldn’t wait to see more from the youngster in the coming games.

Before the game even started, the bay was already excited because the team’s biggest star, Stephen Curry, is set to return. Curry injured his left foot during a game against the Boston Celtics back on March 16. However, the point guard didn’t start the game as he was seated during the first minutes of the first quarter. Curry played in the game for a total of 22 minutes earning 16 points in the process.

As for the Nuggets, one of their star players, Jamal Murray is still out due to an ACL injury on his left ankle. The two teams are set to go against each other in Game 2 on April 18th, Monday.

Jason Tatum scores the game-winner against Brooklyn

One of the most anticipated matchups in the eastern conference is the Celtics versus the Nets and with game 1 in the books, it’s safe to say that the two teams didn’t disappoint. The game, overall, was an exciting back and forth between the two talented eastern teams but Boston managed to snag the win after the exciting final minutes of the game. The match finished 115 – 114 in favour of the Celtics.

Throughout the game, the Celtics showed resilience as 4 of their best players all scored 20 plus points with Tatum garnering 31 including the game-winner. As for the Brooklyn Nets, the powerhouse duo of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant has proven to be lethal with each player recording 29 and 31 points respectively.

The most thrilling part of the game, however, was the ending with Jason Tatum scoring the two-point buzzer-beater. Brooklyn and Boston are set to face each other in game 2 which will begin on Thursday, April 21.

UFC News

MMA has garnered a lot of fans over a couple of years because of the stars that it produced such as Conor Mcgregor, Nate Diaz, and Jorge Masvidal. This made UFC a household name not just in India but in the whole world as well. However, aside from having the biggest stars in sports, UFC is also the leading promotion of MMA because of its tenure in the industry. To help you catch up with the latest news in UFC, here are some of the biggest news that you may have missed:

Khamzat Chimaev pulls off the victory against Gilbert Burns

One of the hottest names in UFC today is Khamzat Chimaev and during the last pay per view of the promotion, UFC 273, he has proven that he’s not all hype. The Russian fighter managed to scrape the win over the number 2 guy in the welterweight division in the form of Gilbert Burns which is no easy feat.

Overall, the fight was close with each competitor landing significant strikes throughout each round. Moreover, the crowd erupted when the two rocked each other with some powerful punches. However, the biggest highlight of the match was when Gilbert Burns knocked Chimaev down during the closing seconds of the second round.

This was the first time Khamzat was knocked down during his entire career and he managed it well considering that he immediately got up and took the win over one of the toughest competitors in the division.

The two warriors battled it out for 3 rounds during the co-main event of the show and they arguably stole the spotlight from Volkanovski and the Korean Zombie. After the match, the two received a standing ovation from the Florida crowd as they’ve seen two of the toughest men in the division lay everything on the line.

The judges scored the match 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 in favour of Chimaev turning his professional record to 11 wins and 0 losses. Although he won the match, it wasn’t a breeze for him as Burns proved to be a huge roadblock for his journey toward the championship.

Gilbert Burns not only earned the respect of fans but the UFC President, Dana White as well which is why he was still rewarded with a win bonus even though he lost the match. Burns was already worthy of fans’ respect as he took on the number 11 guy of the division even though he was number 2 and in this match, he showed why he’s one of the best welterweights in UFC today.

Aljamain Sterling retains the Bantamweight title

After a controversial win over Peter Yan last year for the Bantamweight title, Aljamain Sterling managed to retain the title in yet another controversial victory. The two scrapped for 5 whole rounds which led Sterling to win after two of the three judges scored the match 48-47 in his favour.

The reason why some fans called out this victory was because they believe that Peter Yan spent more time dominating the champion and that he landed more significant strikes. Moreover, the controversy from the first fight carried over in their second meeting which made people root for Peter Yan.

Several people think that the champion doesn’t deserve the title because the way he won was via DQ which involved Yan kneeing Sterling while he had one hand down on the mat.
